What if there was a better way?
I’m a fan of the old saying, if it sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. So don’t think this will be the key to fortune without effort or risk, However there’s another missing link.
Sure the Hare, had speed and agility, he was able to accomplish things at lightening pace. Surely enough to have ‘deserved to win’. Yet often the spoils don’t go to the ‘best’. So clearly being best, isn’t the key to success. Dale Carnegie in the early 1900’s already knew that skill and Intelligence only accounts for about 10-15% of success.
At the same time, the Tortoise had the tenacity, the persistence and he stuck at the task at hand, however his ability was limited. He knew it. Yet took on the challenge anyway. He even harnessed the support of the community. He won, on this occasion.
Imagine how different the whole race may have been different in today’s world. Imagine the social media campaign, Harnessing of support, the outsourcing of areas they’re weak at etc… What could have happened?

I don’t actually believe there are too many industries where competition isn’t fierce. Mainly because with the flow of information these days, there’s a modern day gold rush to any service and even product market where there seems to be an above average rate of return. Or Super Profit.
So one client in the IT sector, managed to produce a 20% increase in workload for a 10 year old, 6 staff business within 6 months. And that was on a turnover of about $1,000,000. Would you like that sort of increase?
Again earlier this year a client with a business less than a year old came to see me, she was in a professional services industry. Through working strategically on her business we identified a gap in her market. Within 3 weeks, she had 3 clients committing to a trial of a prototype service. That service, and those 3 weeks accounts for a $110,000 per year service (already committed). There’s a huge opportunity once all the systems are fully tested.
A third client in the same group, just starting his Business in Cloud support services business when joining the group. Through following the model, he realised a focus in business, he’d never achieved in his life. He has already employed another staff member and developed a product that has provided the ability for him to duplicate his efforts time and again, saving both him and clients’ time and effort in connecting unrelated services, offering unique solutions.

One with a track record. One that’s been there and can show you the way and one that has the training to challenge your mindset. Someone who can help you move beyond your current thinking and strategy.
It doesn’t matter who it is, whether it’s my Growth Mentor’s and our Incubator program, which has already this year produced a consistent growth of businesses in excess of $100k for many clients.
Make sure they have a strategy, have been where you are and aren’t just from a big corporate background and have benefited from the Exec Coaching provided there. Our stories, our situation doesn’t translate.

Some very important points raised here Kevin. Being prepared to invest in oneself and then follow through is something I find difficult to do myself, even though the benefits are obvious. I can see how having a mentor and a clear growth strategy would certainly be a great benefit – thanks for the ‘food for thought’.
